Treasures are Uptown. If you haven’t stopped in Racine’s Uptown neighborhood lately, you’ll want to do it this Saturday. Treasures of Uptown is a free street festival where you’ll discover local entertainers, dance performances, food trucks, a car show, kids activities and much more. It will be held along Junction Avenue just south of Washington Avenue. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There’s plenty of parking behind the buildings on Washington and the city parking lot at 13th and Washington. The day is capped by the Bonk! Performance Series sponsorship of 100 Thousand Poets for Change where more than 20 regional poets will share pieces on social justice issues. That free event will be at 1504 Washington Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The Uptown festival kicks off the Vital Art Project where more than 100 works by regional artists will be on display at three temporary galleries along Washington Avenue on weekends through Oct. 28. Afraid of ghosts? The Walking Ghost Tour of Downtown Racine is back for another scary year from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday. This lengthy tour takes visitors past and into many local sites that are rumored to be haunted. You’ll want to wear sturdy shoes and be ready to climb a few stairs. The tours are conducted Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 4. Meet at Divino Gelato, 245 Main St. Admission is $25 in advance; $30 at the door. Curtain’s going up. What do you get with mistaken identities, $6 million in diamonds and a corpse in a wheelchair? This weekend, it’s “Lucky Stiff,” a musical comedy presented by The Haylofters. The opening night performance (all seats just $13) is 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Malthouse Theatre, 109 N. Main St. in Burlington. Tickets for all other shows are $15. Just a few more. There’s still time (just barely) to catch the Racine Theatre Guild’s production of the comedy farce “Boeing Boeing.” The featured character, Bernard, skillfully juggles three airline flight attendant fiancees until they all arrive in town on the same day. See the cars. The Village of Elmwood Park presents its first Classic Car Show from 9 a.m. to
2 p.m. Saturday at 3131 Taylor Ave. Registration is $10 per car. The first 50 owners receive goody bags. Stop by and vote for best of show. Proceeds will benefit the Taylor Home Monument project.
Run for a cause. Racine Habitat for Humanity holds its first Run for Shelter starting at 9 a.m. Saturday from Island Park, 300 Horlick Drive. The course follows the Root River Pathway. Habitat has built and sold 87 homes in Racine since its inception in 1988. More than 20 of those homes are within 3 miles of the race course. To register, visit www.itsyourrace.com.
