UPDATE: The driver is suspected of driving drunk and has been arrested, according to Sgt. Adam Malacara, of the Racine Police Department.

ORIGINAL STORY: One person sustained injuries in a one-car crash, which ended when the person drove an SUV into a pylon near Third Coast Wood Fire Pizza early Monday morning.

Racine resident Ken Brown, who was on his boat at the time of the crash, said he heard a noise and saw that a red Chevrolet Trail Blazer had smashed into a pylon and a bicycle rack.

“I got there when the person was being hauled away on a gurney,” Brown said.

Brown believed it may have been a car chase and the person driving didn’t know the road ended at the lake, but Racine County Eye has not confirmed that yet with police.

Crews were cleaning up the scene and hauling away the car on Gas Light Drive at around 8:30 a.m.

We’ll add more to this story when we hear back from our sources at the Racine Police Department.
