A Palmyra man overdosed on heroin while driving with a woman and a child in the car at the time, according to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.
Kyle MacDonald, 28, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with possession of narcotic drugs (2nd offense) and operating a car while intoxicated with a child in the car (2nd offense). If convicted of both charges, MacDonald faces up to eight years six months in prison and/or fined up to $12,200.
According to the criminal complaint, a deputy with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department was called for a report of a possible drug overdose at a gas station in the Town of Norway. When the officer found MacDonald, he was lying on the ground next to the driver’s side door of his truck.
The deputy administered Narcan, a drug known to counteract the effect of an opioid overdose. A woman ran up to the deputy and told him that she called MacDonald for a ride. After he picked her and the toddler up, she noticed that something was wrong with MacDonald and asked him to pull into the gas station. He then started to turn blue. So she called the Racine County Joint Dispatch Center.
She gave the deputy MacDonald’s wallet, which had heroin in it. MacDonald later told police that he had snorted heroin.
Released on a $250 cash bond, a preliminary hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 25 in Racine County Felony Court.
