With the goal of supporting economic development in Racine, the city has a new initiative called Build Up Racine to help spur job growth and reinvestment opportunities.

The initiative outlines the reasons why investors, business owners, nonprofit organizations, and entrepreneurs should choose Racine as their place of business.

“Build Up Racine is about preserving and improving our unique retail, commercial and residential corridors while supporting the families, neighborhoods and community groups that make Racine a great place to live,” said Amy Connolly, city development director. “Founded in Racine’s heritage of innovation and civic pride, Build Up Racine fuels economic development efforts from concept to creation, and supports a thriving community.”

The Build Up Racine website features information about why investors and entrepreneurs should choose Racine, business tools, available properties, financing and technical assistance, and news. The site outlines the city’s permitting process, but it also highlights business opportunities, features incentives and connects the user to external resources.

“Build Up Racine was created in recognition of the needs and sentiments of area businesses, entrepreneurs and community members,” said Jim Spangenberg, RDA chairman. “By launching the Build Up Racine initiative and its online counterpart, we’re providing a tangible tool to make economic growth simpler and inspire our city to invest in itself.”

Spangenberg said the site will also feature current and past projects.

“As the site evolves, it will become a place to highlight successes and growth. It will be a place where developers and potential business owners can see what’s happening in Racine and, ultimately, decide they want to play a part in this pivot toward success,” said Spangenberg.
