You’re invited to step into history at the annual Half Point Historical Re-enactment. This October weekend also includes a fall party, music and a chance to meet penguins. Real Racine has lots of great suggestions.
A living history book. The Half Point Historical Re-enactment takes visitors on a journey from the 1700s through the 1960s at the Racine County Fairgrounds, 19805 Durand Ave., Union Grove. Volunteers, dressed in period clothing, will demonstrate the lives of fur traders, early settlers and soldiers from the War of 1812 to World War II. There are also demonstrations of crafts, including woodworking, paddle making, weaving and spinning. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Enter at Gate 6. This family friendly, educational event is free, thanks to donations from the Union Grove Kiwanis and Lions clubs. Donations for the Honor Flight Program will be accepted.
A fall party. The first-ever West Racine Fall Fest is 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at West Boulevard and Washington Avenue. This free event includes kids activities (face painting, pumpkin decorating, make-a-scarecrow) plus live music, food, a beer tent and information from local organizations. Presented by the West Racine Business Alliance.
