Man charged in March drive-by shooting

A Racine man was charged Thursday for his involvement in a drive-by shooting that happened in March in the 1900 block of Cleveland Avenue.

Jaquan Davis, 21, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with first-degree attempted intentional homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety charges by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office. At an initial appearance, Racine County Court Commissioner John Bjelajac set a cash bond of $50,000.

According to the criminal complaint issued by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office, officers with the Racine Police Department investigated a report of shots being fired in the 1900 block of Cleveland Avenue on March 5. After a fight happened between Herrington and another man over Herrington’s girlfriend, Davis gave Herrington a gun. He took it from Davis, the two got into a PT Cruiser and they drove off.

Officers on the scene recovered six shell casings from a .45 caliber automatic pistol.

As they were leaving, a Chevrolet Impala drove by and Herrington fired several shots toward the man he was fighting with. The fight then carried over to McDonald’s on Lathrop Avenue.

“A fight started, another guy pulled a gun, the fight broke up,” the criminal complaint reads.

As the PT Cruiser left, Herrington then shot at the man again as he tried to hide on the passenger side of the Impala.

A preliminary hearing has been set for 9 a.m. Oct. 18 in Racine County Felony Court.

Marsean Herrington, 25, of Racine, also faces the same charges for his involvement. But Herrington also faces two bail jumping and possession of a firearm by a felon charges, according to online court records. A warrant was issued for his arrest in March. Law enforcement officials are still searching for him.
