A man who had mental health issues was arrested after he became suicidal, threatened to harm the police, and kicked a firefighter.

The 22-year-old Mount Pleasant man was arrested for battery to a firefighter, resisting/obstructing an officer, and two counts of disorderly conduct.

According to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the man had been drinking alcohol and said he wanted to harm himself at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at residence in the 4300 block of Danbury Lane.

A number of people inside the home tried to calm him down, but he “remained belligerent.” When officers arrived, the man would not comply with their requests.  They detained him and brought him to an ambulance. As rescue personnel with the South Shore Fire Department conducted their initial assessment, the man kicked one of them in the stomach.

The man was taken to Ascension-All Saints Hospital for an evaluation. During that time he kept causing a disturbance. Yelling threats at the officers, he attempted to flee. Once medically cleared, he was taken to the Racine County Jail.
