Alice H. Barina, 94, passed away on Sunday at The Villa at Lincoln Park.  Alice was born in Racine on December 16, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Vincent and Frances (Nee:  Kuzela) Barina.

Alice was a graduate of St. John Nepomuk Grade School and William Horlick High School “Class of 1940.”  Furthering her education she received a B.S. from Marquette University’s College of Business Administration in 1949 and Masters Degree in Communication from UW-Milwaukee in 1972.

During World War II, Alice proudly served her country in the Coast Guard.  She broke barriers for women in the workforce and was employed by S.C. Johnson Wax for many years both in Racine and London.  After receiving her Masters degree Alice was  employed as a speech therapist for Curative Workshop in Racine.  Alice was a longtime active member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church where she volunteered at the school to help children with speech.

She loved classical music, the Arts, traveling to thirty-seven countries, and was an avid proponent of the environment and wildlife protection.  More than anything Alice loved and treasured time spent with her fifty nieces, nephews, grand, great-grand, great great-grand nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her brother, Robert Barina; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Henry Barina; sisters, Lillian Sommer and Sr. Joan Barina M.M.S.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church with Reverend Steve Varghese officiating.  Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.   Memorials to St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church or to the Medical Mission Sisters have been suggested.
