Cory Mason IV was sworn in Tuesday night as the new mayor of Racine.
During his speech, Mason promised to restore the middle class and get Racine back to work. The city currently has 11,000 people that don’t have a GED and has historically had one of the highest unemployment rates in the state. With Foxconn Technology Group planning to build a 20 million square foot manufacturing campus, Mason vowed to work with communities in the region.
Mason, who served as a state representative for the 66th District, was elected in October during a special election after John Dickert, the former mayor, left office to take another job.

Gov. Scott Walker called for a special election to fill Mason’s vacant seat on Jan. 16. If a primary is needed, the primary election would be held Dec. 19. Circulation of nomination papers for candidates may begin today, November 7. Nomination papers must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m. on Nov. 21.
