A 37-year-old woman is facing domestic abuse battery charges after Caledonia police say she attacked a relative while she was drunk.
Allison Wisniewski was charged Friday by the Racine County District Attorney‘s office with one misdemeanor charge each of battery and disorderly conduct, both with domestic abuse qualifiers. If convicted, she faces up to a year in jail and/or up to $11,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were called Thursday to a home for a report of a woman who attacked a relative. When police arrived, the residents told them Wisniewski suffers from mental illness and had been off her medication. She was sleeping at 6:30 p.m., which was unusual, so one of her relatives went to wake her up.
Police say the relative could smell alcohol – something they said Wisniewski was ordered not to consume – and when she woke up, she attacked her relative, slapping them multiple times and cutting their nose.
Wisniewski was given a $250 cash bond at her initial appearance and ordered not to possess or consume alcohol and not to have any contact with the victim, their home, work or other family members. She will next be in court Jan. 4 for a pre-trial conference.
Court records indicate Wisniewski was being held in the Winnebago County mental health facility earlier this year and in March was found incompetent to stand trial on a disorderly conduct charge. In May, though, she reached an agreement with the state that included treatment and a no contest plea.
