A male suspect shot by an officer with the Racine Police Department Wednesday afternoon has died, according to a story by WISN Channel 12.

The officer was attempting to conduct a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Park Avenue at 4:01 p.m. when the suspect fled on foot. While the officer chased the suspect in the 1400 block of Park Avenue, the suspect “presented a gun” and the officer shot the suspect, according to a press release by the Racine Police Department.

According to media reports:

The suspect — whose name has not been released — was shot one time and died while being transported to the hospital. The car the male was driving did not have license plates.

“The officers weren’t hurt and have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of this investigation, per department policy, the Wisconsin Department of Justice said. The agency is leading the investigation,” according to Channel 12.
