A Sturtevant man is facing a disorderly conduct charged after he attempted to strike another man with a screwdriver.

Charges were filed Monday against Mitchell Sytkowski, 26, by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with disorderly conduct, use of a dangerous weapon. However, he has not had an initial appearance.

According to the criminal complaint, officers with the Sturtevant Police Department were called for a report of an assault in progress at 10:39 p.m. Saturday at 3416 Kensington Square Road. The caller told dispatchers that Sytkowski was “attacking the complainant’s father-in-law with a screwdriver.”

When police arrived, three men were in the driveway. Witnesses told police that Sytkowski was seen standing outside his home. Sytkowski confronted one of the men accusing him of pushing him down and calling him names. But that person told Sytkowski that he had the wrong person and he needed to get away from his car.

During the conversation, Sytkowski pulled out a screwdriver and started come at another man who had just come outside. The man blocked the swing and eventually convinced Sytkowski to put the screwdriver in his pocket. As he was doing so, the man took it from him and threw it in the driveway.

Sytkowski told police he saw a car back out of the driveway and the driver pulled up next to him. The occupants inside the car then pushed him into a snowbank. He didn’t know the people who pushed him but knew one of his neighbors. He went home and got a screwdriver “to defend himself.”

The officer checked the neighbor’s car to see if it was warm, but it was still cold and that meant it had not been driven recently. The officer also noted that the snowbank where Sytkowski said he had been pushed down had not been disturbed. Also, he didn’t have any snow, water or salt on his clothing.

However, his blood-alcohol level was at a .12 percent.

Sytkowski is scheduled to be in court at 2 p.m. Monday, but records do not show that he made an appearance.
