Charlene Dawson, also known as “KAT,” received the promise of eternal life on February 8, 2018, at her residence. Charlene was born in Birmingham, AL on September 15, 1959, the daughter of the late Julius and Mary Anna (Nee: Allen) Dawson.

Charlene was employed with various companies through the years, but her most important job was raising her seven children. She will be remembered fondly for her outgoing personality, her love of singing, her great cooking and her deep love and devotion to her family.

Charlene will be dearly missed by her children, Patrick Dawson, Derick, Derell, Kelly, Kenny, Kendrick and Cadreka Smith; six grandchildren, Deandre and Dezrhea Smith, Kenny, Kyson and Kayanne Smith and Devonte Solomon Jr.; her beloved stepchildren, Joseph, Travis, Tykesha and Robert Williams. She also leaves to cherish her siblings, Charles (Jennie) Dawson of Antioch, TN, Hubert Dawson, Mary (Andrew) Johnson, Veronica (Carl) Craig, all of Orriville, AL, Robert (Brenda) Dawson, Walter (Pamela) Dawson, Cherry Dawson, Christine Gaddy, Sylvester (Sheila) Dawson, all of Birmingham, AL, Jerry McDole of Selma, AL; two special Aunts, Johnnie Mae (John) Cullpepper of Birmingham, AL, Pauline (late Jerry) Cline of New Orleans, LA; special friend, Kenny Ray Smith Sr.; a host of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Charlene was also preceded in death by three brothers, Julius Dawson Jr., Jesse Dawson, and Jerry Dawson.

Homegoing services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greater St. Luke’s Baptist Church, 1326 State St, with Rev. Joseph Pipes officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m.
