A Racine mother is being held at the Racine County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond for selling heroin from her apartment, according to officials with the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

Sharon Cartharn, 29, was charged Tuesday with possession of marijuana, possession of heroin, and maintaining a drug trafficking place. If convicted of all charges, Cartharn faces up to 19 years in prison and/or fines up to $61,000.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators with the Racine Police Department executed a search warrant on Feb. 9 at an apartment at 424 Lake Avenue because they suspected that Cartharn was selling heroin from the apartment. When they entered the apartment, they found several small children and Cartharn’s aunt.

They also found marijuana sitting on the counter and bags of heroin in a dresser in the bedroom.

“One baggie contained large chunks of heroin and one baggie contained a smaller amount of powder,” the complaint reads. “… Based on my training and experience, I know this amount of heroin to be far greater than the amount of heroin stored for personal use.”

Cartharn told police that she was also babysitting her sister’s children and she lived in the apartment with her children.

A preliminary hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Racine County Courthouse.
