Village of Sturtevant officials want residents to help them design a new skate park slated for East Park.
The design meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Village Hall, 8901 89th Street.
Located at the intersection of 87th and Corliss Streets on the village’s east side, East Park is a mostly blank slate consisting predominantly of a playground. To make sure the skate park is welcome to everyone, Trustee Carrie Harbach wants skaters of all abilities to attend, a story in The Journal Times reads.
“We would like beginner to professional skaters to attend the meeting,” she told the newspaper. “We need everyone’s input.”
The total cost of the project is expected to be upwards of $200,000, money that is allocated in the 2018 municipal budget but that Harbach said probably won’t be enough to cover the entirety of the eventual plan.
To make up the difference, Harbach plans to apply for grants once a plan and a timeline are in place and donations are always welcome, the story continues.
Chick-Fil-A is sponsoring the meeting and will provide something to eat for attendees, Harbach confirmed with Racine County Eye. Nathan Bemo, president of American Ramp Company, will lead the meeting.
She hopes to break ground in the spring.
