The Racine Unified Board of Education is expected to vote on the 2018-2019 school year calendar Monday.
After hearing from a committee of parents, teachers, and administrators, early release days will be eliminated, and students instead will have six minutes added to the end of each school day, a story in The Journal Times reads.
Early release days have traditionally been set aside for teacher professional development, training that will now take place Aug. 27 and 28, before school begins, as well as Sept. 28, Oct. 25-26 and Feb. 15, the story continues.
The new school year is slated to begin Sept. 4 and end June 7 with the following breaks:
- Nov. 22-23: Thanksgiving break
- Dec. 21 – Jan. 1: Holiday break
- Feb. 18: Winter break
- April 19 – 26: Spring break
Two early release days are being reserved for parent-teacher conferences, the newspaper listed in its story.
