The Wisconsin Department of Justice Monday is expected to forward its investigative report about the Donte Shannon shooting to Racine County District Attorney Tricia Hanson.
The Journal Times is reporting that the DOJ’s investigation into the police shooting of Shannon last month has concluded, and officials there expect to forward their report to Hanson on Monday. The day the report is released to Hanson will be almost exactly a month after he was shot and killed because he allegedly brandished a gun while fleeing a traffic stop.
On Jan. 17, Shannon fled on foot following a traffic stop and brandished a gun in the 1400 block of Park Avenue, according to officials with the Wisconsin Department of Justice. A witness told Racine County Eye that Racine Police officers Chad Stillman and Peter Boeck told Donte several times to drop the gun. Shannon’s father, Nakia, said he has a photo of his son’s body proving his son was shot multiple times though that detail has never been confirmed by authorities.
Stillman and Boeck have been on administrative leave since the shooting.

Protestors took to the streets twice Jan. 29 including a march to the Racine County Courthouse where Hanson told citizens that once she received the report, she would review it and then sit with the family first.
Nakia Shannon told the newspaper that he was disappointed to get information about the DOJ’s investigation from a reporter instead of from the DOJ itself.
Family and friends of Shannon remain concerned and calling for changes. They have a rally planned for 3 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 730 Washington Avenue.
