UPDATE 5:30 p.m.: Stacy Tapp, chief of communications from Racine Unified, said that classes at McKinley Middle School will resume on Friday.
“Police have found no evidence to support the credibility of the threat. We will have added security at the building tomorrow to help families and staff feel safe.”
McKinley Middle School was canceled Thursday because of a threat someone made on social media.
Details are sparse, but school administrators posted the following message on their Facebook page.
“School has been canceled for Mckinley Middle School students today, Thursday, March 1. We have worked very closely with the Racine Police department and school staff this morning to identify those involved in posting a threat on social media. We have not been able to complete the investigation yet. To err on the side of caution, we are canceling school today.
All after-school activities are also canceled. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding during this situation.”
Racine County Eye has reached out to district officials and the Racine Police Department. When we receive more information, we’ll add to the story.
