A person and three pets have died in a house fire that happened early Sunday morning at 2901 Gilson Street.
The Racine Police Department, Racine Fire Department and Racine County Medical Examiner responded to the call at 6:22 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, they found a patient that “was later found with injuries unsustainable to life,” according to the press release by the Racine Fire Department.
The name of the person who died has not been released. However, Racine County Eye has learned from a neighbor that the victim may have been a disabled woman that was living in the home that was bedridden. Those reports, however, have not been confirmed.
Three pets were also found dead inside the home. The fire was contained to a bedroom, but smoke and heat damage extended throughout the rest of the home, the press release reads.
The fire, which started in the bedroom of the home, is still under investigation. The estimated loss due to the fire has been set at about $70,000.
