The City of Racine Landmarks Preservation Commission is updating the City of Racine’s heritage preservation plan. The purpose of the update is to formulate and identify specific strategies that enhance the City’s preservation program. This plan will build on past successes while proposing additional actions to further preserve the history of our community.
The city’s urban character is paramount to ensuring economic development, enhancing the quality of life, and promoting future vitality.
To help the Commission in its work, an open-house style community workshop will be held so that the community can learn about the preservation planning process. During the workshop, the Commission can learn from the community about its preservation priorities, and potential topics to be included in the updated plan.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has contracted The Lakota Group, a preservation planning firm based in Chicago, Illinois for development of a heritage preservation plan for the City of Racine. The purpose of the Plan is to formulate and identify specific, realistic, and achievable strategies for enhancing the City’s current heritage preservation program and initiatives.
The City of Racine has long been recognized as a leader in preserving and revitalizing its significant historic resources while undertaking successful planning efforts to revitalize Downtown Racine and surrounding neighborhood districts. With this Plan, the Racine community desires to build on these past successes while recognizing that additional efforts are needed to identify priority areas for preservation and reinvestment to shape the City’s urban form, character, and overall economic development.
