Racine firefighters battled two garage fires Sunday in residential areas. No one was injured in either fire, but thousands of dollars in damage was done in each incident.

The first fire was reported at 7:43 a.m. in the detached garage at 4136 Monterey Drive. Firefighters put out the fire quickly, according to a press release by the Racine Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but investigators know the fire started along the west wall of the garage. The estimated loss was set at $25,000. The property was turned over to the homeowner.

The second blaze happened at 2:28 p.m. in a detached garage at 3401 Republic Avenue. The garage had an attached storage shed, which is where the homeowner was welding.

“Upon arrival, heavy smoke was seen coming from a detached garage to the east of the
home,” the press release reads. “The fire was contained to the garage and an attached storage shed. ”

Investigators with the Racine Fire Department determined that the cause of the fire was welding. The estimated loss was set at $45,000. The property was turned over to the homeowner.
