Do More 24 Racine is an online giving event that organizers hope will raise $50,000 or more in just, well, 24 hours.

From noon on May 17 until noon on May 18, Do More 24 Racine will host a portal where supporters can donate to one or more of the area groups and organizations listed there.

Modeled after an event in Washington, D.C., the United Way of Racine County put together the 24-hour event after taking note of how charitable giving increasingly takes place online and that there are a number of local nonprofit organizations that are not currently United Way partners and need support.

“We’re looking at this as a 24-hour camp the whole community can get involved with to support non-profits who are very deserving but may get overlooked or lack exposure,” said Ali Haigh, vice president of investor relations for UWRC. “There are local nonprofits who can really use this money for a variety of reasons; bookkeeping, utility bills, printer paper and ink, whatever they need.”

For organizations that aren’t United Way partners, Do More 24 is more than just an online event with an outcome over which they have very little control. Instead, nonprofits register to participate and then take full advantage of free tools to fully promote their listing on the Do More 24 website.

“The whole point of Do More 24 is to help local organizations succeed, so we provide the resources and United Way staff to help groups tell their stories and connect with their audiences through social media, email lists,” Haigh added. “They can be as extensive – or not – as they want.”

Each participating organization gets their own free microsite within the Do More 24 website and the training to make it as robust as possible. Haigh said the set-up only takes between 15-30 minutes, and there are webinars both live and recorded to help along the way.

“We want to build capacity for these organizations and raise money for their success,” Haigh added. “When they succeed, our community succeeds.”

Groups and organizations interested in being part of Do More 24 have until Monday, April 23 to register.
