A no-knock search warrant executed at the residence of a known gang member Thursday morning led to a number of criminal charges filed Friday against a 21-year-old Racine man.
Jose A. Vazquez Jr. was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, maintaining a drug trafficking place and possession of marijuana. Vazquez also is charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The felony charges carry a total fine of $145,000 and 57 years in prison. The misdemeanors carry a fine of $1,000 and 60 days in jail. Vazquez, who was in court Friday afternoon for an initial appearance, is also charged as a repeat offender, which could increase potential prison time by four years for the felonies and two years for the misdemeanors.
Court records indicate Vazquez has three previous convictions, including a felony conviction of robbery with the threat of force in 2014 in Racine County.
According to the criminal complaint:
Agents with the Racine County Sheriff’s Metro Gang Unit conducted a search warrant at 1214 N. Memorial Drive, as part of an ongoing drug investigation. Vazquez told police he had purchased 3 ounces of cocaine a few days before for $3,300 but he refused to reveal his source.
During the search of the defendant’s bedroom, police seized 2.1 grams of cocaine in a baggie, 81.5 grams of cocaine in a sandwich bag, 1.4 grams of marijuana, a cutting agent, working digital scales, three white Xanax pills, a $20 bill with 1 gram of cocaine, a pistol with multiple rounds, multiple cell phones, $1,490 in a safe and $861 in a pair of pants.
The criminal complaint further states the amount of cocaine taken would have a street value of $8,850.
