Marlene J. Nievin, 72, passed away on Saturday, April 28th, 2018 at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. She was born on February 24, 1946, the daughter of the late Zigmund and Estelle (nee: Cegielski) Gorecki.
On July 9th, 1976 she was united in marriage to Gerald G. Nievin, who preceded her in death on March 13th, 2018. Marlene was employed for 38 years by Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation as a Production Control Analyst, retiring in 2003.
Marlene was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and spent many years as a tireless volunteer, donating time and goods for the annual church festival, bake sales and raffles. Marlene was known for her “Energizer Bunny” qualities, enthusiasm and vitality for selflessly helping others. Marlene successfully led the Missions Group, gathering fabric to create beautiful quilts for underprivileged families throughout the world. She was also a member of Rainbow quilters, regularly collected & donated supplies to local homeless shelters, and often dropped in on family and friends to offer help however she could.
In addition to all of her volunteer work, Marlene enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, quilting, gardening, spending time with family, friends & her beloved dog Roxy. She also enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, family and friends as well as gambling trips with her sister and girlfriends.
Marlene will be dearly missed by her children, Gregory Cee of Milwaukee; Heather (Michael) Darpino of North Carolina; Stacy (William) Tuinstra of Racine; and Garrett (Felicia) Nievin of Virginia; her grandchildren Stewart, Gerald, Jacob, Amanda, Alex, Alayna and James; her sisters Pam (Tom) Kaleta of Cudahy, and Geraldine (Dennis) Hirsch of North Carolina; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2nd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Avenue, with Reverend Ricardo Martin officiating. Friends and relatives may meet with the family from 9:30 a.m. -11:15 a.m. prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society have been suggested.
