An unforeseen benefit of the Foxconn Technology Group development could be the creation of a new path to both downtown Racine and Kenosha, which has been a challenge for both communities.
Highway KR will be widened to four lanes from Interstate 94 to just east of Green Bay Road for Foxconn and some elected officials see that as an opportunity.
“KR is an outlier,” said Racine County Executive Jonathan Delegrave. “We have a great opportunity to make KR a great spur (highway) to get people to the city of Kenosha and the city of Racine. Access to the (two cities) is not always the most efficient.
“Right now, the state is going to expand it to just east of Green Bay Road. We are working with Kenosha County to make it four lanes all the way to the lake.”

If the counties can make that happen, they would hand it over to the state to maintain.
A four-lane trunk highway that does not pass through congested urban areas before reaching Sheridan Road and Lake Michigan could prove to be an easier path to the downtown lakefronts for both cities, Delegrave suggested.
