A search warrant at a Racine residence Thursday led to a drug trafficking charge being filed Friday against a 30-year-old city man.
Terry A. Lawson was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with felony charges of maintaining a drug trafficking place and possession with intent to deliver or manufacture marijuana, obstructing an officer and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
If convicted on all charges, Lawson faces up to four years four months in prison and/or fined up to $20,500.
According to the criminal complaint:
Officers with the Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at 1704 Franklin St. because the defendant allegedly had been selling marijuana. As police began to make entry, they observed Lawson rushing around the residence and attempting to destroy or conceal items.
During the search, police recovered a digital scale with marijuana residue, the cover for the scale, razor blades, plastic sandwich bags, a mason jar with several loose “buds” of marijuana that weighed 7 grams and .3 grams of loose marijuana on a nightstand.
Lawson admitted all the marijuana in the house was his. He stated to police he is barely selling enough to make any money or even pay his bills. When the investigator told the defendant he believed he was trying to hide substances when police entered, Lawson allegedly laughed and said: ‘You know how we do it.”
Lawson will be back in Racine County Circuit Court on June 7 at 9 a.m.
