A 26-year-old Mount Pleasant man faces a felony hit-and-run charge after a motor vehicle accident in April.

The felony charge filed Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court against Erik William Nielsen carries a fine of $10,000 and nine months in prison. Nielsen also is charged with his first drunken driving offense, causing injury, which carries a fine of $2,000 and 30 days in the county jail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Mount Pleasant Police responded April 20 at Mariner and South Sunnyslope drives in Mount Pleasant for a property damage crash. The defendant was located in his vehicle on Mariner Drive, and police stated they could detect a strong odor of intoxicants.

The victim stated she was slowing to make a turn when a Dodge Durango approached at a high rate of speed from behind and struck her. The vehicle then left the scene, traveling through the backyards of several condominiums in the area and hit at least two parked vehicles.

As a result of the crash, the victim reported pain to her left shin, her right knee, and her left shoulder. It was later learned that she had suffered a concussion.

A blood test revealed that Nielsen had a blood alcohol content of 0.283.

He signed a $10,000 signature bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for 1:30 p.m.  July 19 at the Racine County Courthouse.
