Editor’s note: Runeld “Rune Will” Williams, one of several members of a music collective called The Beat Council, will be guest blogging on the Racine County Eye. Here’s how the project got started.
The Beginning
2013 was the year. In a small room on Carmel Avenue in Racine, Wisconsin in June is where it all began. I met Rob (TR) Torres, a music producer who was on a similar crossroad as myself. As we both contemplated our musical journey (37 years combined), we wondered why we hadn’t achieved greater results.
Let me explain where I was. After years of doing music, I had decided to no longer actively pursue it for a litany of reasons. Fate however had a different plan. Rob had been looking for a recording engineer and my name had been given to him by a mutual acquaintance (Black Shinobi).
As I engineered sessions for Rob and his clients, my passion for music returned. It was then that we hatched a simple idea. The plan was to produce, write, and record music for the purpose of licensing said music to companies and businesses who were looking for original compositions.
Since we share a mutual philosophy (regarding the voice as an instrument), we figured we should record various types of artists over his tracks that way potential clients have options. After discussing this idea with various local artists, one artist in particular (Kiondre Graham) bought into the plan.
I met Kiondre at work & felt he could use Rob’s ability to develop artists and find their sound. 3 months after introducing him to Rob, we began working as a collective with Kiondre being our 1st artist.
