A 25-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drunk driving and causing a two-car rollover crash with three children and a woman in the car.

The rollover crash happened at about 6:10 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 94 near 6 Mile Road, according to a press release by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.

The Milwaukee man was driving a blue Hyundai when he crashed into the side of a silver Nissan sedan. Both cars flipped over several times and came to rest near the East Frontage Road.

“The Nissan came to rest upright on its wheels while the blue Hyundai came to rest on its roof,” the press release reads.

Four of the five passengers in the Hyundai escaped the rollover crash, but the driver was trapped inside the car. Deputies were able to free him from the vehicle. The driver and the woman were taken to Ascension-All Saints Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The three children in the car — ages 11, 9 and 5 — were also taken to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin for non-life threatening injuries.

“Preliminary investigation reveals the children were not wearing any safety restraints,” according to the press release.

The driver of the Nissan was also taken to the hospital to be checked out for possible injuries.

The man, whose name has not been released, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing injury, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with passengers under 16 years of age, reckless driving causing bodily harm, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, no safety restraints (children), and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
