It’s festival time in Racine County! This weekend, experience German, Greek and Armenian food and culture. You’re also invited to enjoy a farm breakfast and live music. Come along with Real Racine!
Gemutlichkeit, everybody! A German term reflecting friendship, warmth and good cheer is on the way for Racine’s German Fest on Saturday and Sunday at the Harbor Lite Yacht Club, 559 State St. Live polka music, German food and beer, raffles , games and more both days. Admission is $5. Festival hours are 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Presented by the Downtown Racine Corp. Visit www.racinedowntown.com
Greek Fest fun. One of the area’s favorite ethnic festivals — Greek Fest — is Friday through Sunday at the Greek Orthodox Church grounds, 1335 S. Green Bay Road. The weekend includes a carnival midway, Greek dance performances, a Greek marketplace and authentic food. A gyros lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Festival hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 12 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Free admission and parking.
Picnic time. Great, homemade food is in store at the St. Hagop Church Armenian Picnic from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson Park Pavilion, 6200 Northwestern Ave. You’ll find beef kebab, sarma (stuffed grape leaves), penelee (cheese puffs) and more. There is also live music and dancing. Free admission.
At the farm. The entire family is welcome to visit a working dairy farm at the 2018 Racine County Breakfast on the Farm. Breakfast (including scrambled eggs, sausage, milk and ice cream) will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bratz Dairy Farm, 11924 4 1/2 Mile Road in Raymond. Breakfast is $6 per person. Children ages 3 and younger eat free. Visitors can see a farm equipment display, meet farm animals and catch some bluegrass picking by the Soggy Prairie Boys. It’s presented by the Racine County Dairy Promotion.
Pops and opera. The Racine Symphony Orchestra (RSO) Lakeside Pops Concert take you to the opera at Festival Hall, 5 Fifth St., on Friday. This casual, summertime event features the Belle Ensemble choral group performing selections from the world’s most popular operas. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The concert starts at 8 p.m. Food and beverages are available for purchase. General admission is $25 for adults. Students (age 20 and younger) are free. Concert in the park. The Burlington Kiwanis Civic Band opens its summer season at 7 p.m. Friday at the Echo Park gazebo, 595 Milwaukee Ave. The concert programs, including marches, show tunes, jazz and swing music, will be held each Friday through July 27. Free admission.
