A 19-year-old Racine woman faces a felony charge of intentionally abusing a patient after she allegedly assaulted a resident of a group home May 30.

The felony charge filed Friday against Canei A. Brown carries a fine of $10,000 and six years in prison. Brown also is charged with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, which carries a fine of $1,000 and 90 days in county jail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Officers with the Racine Police Department were dispatched to a group home for disabled residents, where they met with the supervisor, who stated the defendant is a third-shift employee. The supervisor observed a black eye and some lacerations on the face of one of the residents, who didn’t have those injuries the previous day.

The supervisor stated that Brown was the only third-shift employee working that night.

The victim told the supervisor that he had eaten a hamburger that must have been the defendant’s because she got mad and “punched me a lot of times.” The victim further stated that “Canei, she whooped my ass, she’s very strong, over a cheeseburger.”

The defendant is free on a $5,000 signature bond, which includes house arrest. She is due back in Racine County Circuit Court on Aug. 27 for a 9 a.m. preliminary hearing.
