An investigation into a shooting June 23 led to a search warrant at a Racine residence and two criminal charges filed Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court against a 28-year-old Racine woman.

Molly A. Whited is charged with a felony count of neglecting a child and a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana.

The felony carries a fine of $10,000 and three years, six months in prison, while the misdemeanor carries a fine of $1,000 and six months in county jail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Police executed a search warrant at 938 Superior St., No. 3, where they located the defendant and her 15-month-old son. Inside a bedroom, they found an open plastic bag with drug-related paraphernalia, and next to a child’s play and pack in a dresser drawer was a loaded sawed-off shotgun.

The officer stated that, based on the height of the drawer, the location of the gun was accessible to a 15-month-old child.

Police also found marijuana “roaches” that weighed 1.2 grams, along with a loaded .22 caliber rifle in the living room. Whited admitted to living in the apartment with the child and that she knew of the shotgun that was in the bedroom.

Whited will be back in court for a preliminary hearing July 5 at 8:30 a.m.
