A Union Grove man is facing several felony charges after a fight with deputies from the Racine County Sheriff’s Department during a traffic stop.

Dmitry Zellmer, 20, was arrested for operating while impaired (1st offense), battery to law enforcement officer, resisting officer causing harm, and resisting officer.

According to a press release by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department:

Deputies received a call on July 4 about a man driving “all over the road” and traveling at about 80 mph through Union Grove.

“Deputies responded to the area and found the suspect vehicle stopped in the Westbound lane of STH 11 with the operator leaning the upper half of his body out of the vehicle,” the press release reads.

Another deputy, who was working under a grant-funding alcohol saturation patrol, took over the call when it became clear that Zellmer was possibly intoxicated.

During the stop, Zellmer got out of the car and refused to comply with the deputies’ orders. Lunging at them, he began to physically fight them.

“While attempting to control Dmitry one of the Deputies sustained injuries requiring him to be treated at Ascension Racine and later released,” the press release reads.

The Racine County District Attorney’s Office is expected to file charges this week.
