An apparent affinity for the energy drink, Red Bull, landed a 28-year-old Waupun man in a pile of trouble in Racine County Circuit Court.
Cory T. Naber was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office Wednesday with three felonies and three misdemeanors relating to a trio of thefts of Red Bull at Burlington, Caledonia, and Mount Pleasant stores.
Naber is also charged with three felony counts of bail jumping, which each carry a fine of $10,000 and six years in prison, and three misdemeanor counts of retail theft, which carry a fine of $10,000 and nine months in county jail.
Naber failed to appear for his initial appearance Wednesday, and according to online court records, an arrest/bench warrant is expected to be issued.
According to the criminal complaints:
Officers with the Caledonia Police Department responded May 23 to the Pick N Save, 5111 Douglas Ave., in Caledonia, for a theft report. An employee had video footage of Naber taking 18 12 packs of Red Bull without paying. An unknown customer took a photograph of the defendant’s vehicle’s license plate, which was given to the store manager.
The Red Bull had a total value of $416.01.
Five days earlier, police were called to the Festival Foods, 5740 Washington Ave., Mount Pleasant, for a similar theft complaint.
The manager told officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department that the theft occurred May 16. A video showed the defendant load 14 12-packs of Red Bull into a cart and leave without paying. A second man was seen distracting an employee as Naber exited. Both men were then seen on an external surveillance video getting into the same vehicle.
The Burlington Police Department responded on May 5 to Wal-Mart, 1901 Milwaukee Ave., for the first theft complaint allegedly involving the defendant.
A loss prevention employee told police that Naber had taken 13 12-packs of Red Bull and left without paying.
Court records indicate that Naber has a previous felony conviction for possession of a narcotic drug in Waukesha County. He also is free on bond in another case in Waukesha, where he faces a felony charge of possession of narcotic drugs and misdemeanor charges of possession of an illegally obtained prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.
