A 65-year-old Iowa man was treated for non life-threatening injuries he sustained after the boat he was in smashed into a break wall early Saturday morning.

Dispatchers received a call at 4:14 a.m. Saturday from a fisherman on Lake Michigan who saw a boat crash into the break wall near the 16th Street Lagoon. Officers with the Racine Police Department, Racine County Boat Patrol, DNR, Racine Fire Department and Coast Guard responded to the area.

The boat captain, who was driving a 33-foot fishing boat, was getting ready for Salmon-O-Rama. Five people and a dog were on the boat at the time of the crash. The 65-year-old man, who was a passenger in the boat, had lacerations to his legs and neck. He also had a fish hook lodged in his neck, the press release reads.

A boater passing by the area picked up the injured man and took him to the 5th Street Boat Launch. A rescue squad waited at the launch to pick the man up. He was taken to Ascension-All Saints Hospital for treatment.

No one else was injured in the crash, which remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor.
