A 27-year-old Kenosha man faces felony charges for attempting to flee or elude an officer and second-degree recklessly endangering safety after his arrest June 22 in Union Grove.

If convicted of both charges, Alexander Jonathan Beesley faces a total fine of $35,000 and 13 years, six months in prison.

According to the criminal complaint:

A deputy observed the defendant’s motorcycle traveling at 70 mph in a 25 mph zone after it left the R and R Club on Main Street. The motorcycle swerved and nearly struck a construction worker, who had to jump to a grass area off the roadway to avoid a collision.

The defendant accelerated from a red light and a chase that reached speeds of 100 mph ensued. The pursuit was terminated because of safety concerns, but the deputy was able to identify the defendant through a debit card he had used at the bar.

When deputies with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department made contact with Beesley, they observed a strong odor of intoxicants, his speech was slurred and his eyes were red and glassy. The defendant refused to submit to field sobriety tests and to a chemical test of his breath.

Beesley, who made his initial appearance Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court, will have a preliminary hearing July 26 at 9 a.m.
