An incident with an apparently intoxicated bicyclist ended in the rider’s arrest Tuesday. The Racine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 7 p.m. report of a bicycle that crashed into a ditch near 67th Drive and Durand Avenue in the Town of Yorkville.

The complainant stated the operator appeared highly intoxicated.

According to the Sheriff’s Department: “Upon arrival, the operator of the bicycle became combative and was taken into custody.  It was found that the ‘bicycle’ was a motor-powered bicycle and the operator had been riding on the roadway prior to crashing into the ditch.“

According to officials, this type of powered bicycle is capable of speeds up to 22 miles per hour.

The operator, a 58-year-old Franksville resident, was subsequently taken into custody for his sixth offense of Operating While Intoxicated. He was also charged with Resisting/Obstructing an officer and was transported to the Racine County Jail.
