A 22-year-old Racine man faces a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver cocaine after his arrest Sunday in the Village of Mount Pleasant.
The felony charge filed Monday in Racine County Circuit Court against Enrique Aranda Jr. carries a maximum fine of $100,000 and 25 years in prison.
Aranda, who is in custody and made his initial court appearance Monday afternoon, also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, which carries a fine of $500 and 30 days in the county jail.
According to the criminal complaint:
A Mount Pleasant police officer observed the defendant’s vehicle deviate from its lane of traffic several times, which led to a traffic stop. While speaking with Aranda and a passenger, the officer observed an odor of marijuana. The passenger produced a baggie of marijuana and was taken into custody.
After police took Aranda into custody, a K-9 officer ran his dog around the vehicle and “hit” on a location inside the vehicle. A search between the passenger seat and the door revealed a bag with what later tested positive for 18.8 grams of cocaine. Police also located a small digital scale on the floor along with two cell phones.
A preliminary hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 9 in front of Racine County Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch.
