With the first vertical construction recently taking place at what will become part of the Foxconn Technology Group’s massive Mount Pleasant facility, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer is facing the reality of just exactly HOW it will hire the 13,000 workers it has promised to employ. Southeastern Wisconsin, along with much of the United States, is enjoying historically high employment numbers. And many positions in the region are currently going unfilled or suffering frequent turnover.

To address that need one approach Foxconn will employ is a specific effort aimed at military veterans. Foxconn is launching a military veteran recruitment campaign to hire 3,000 veterans.

There are approximately 370,000 veterans in Wisconsin and, employing veterans has been part of Foxconn’s stated recruitment plans ever since the company announced its investment in the state.

According to a company release, Foxconn will attend 20 veteran career fairs across 13 states over the next three months to recruit, interview and hire former military personnel.
“Hiring men and women who have served the country makes good business sense. Every year, some 250,000 Americans transition from the military to civilian life and Foxconn understands how this transition is an important time in the life of any veteran and their families,” said Christopher “Tank” Murdock, Special Advisor to Foxconn’s Wisconsin operations and a retired Navy Captain.

Earlier this week, the company had its first push to hire veterans when Foxconn reps attended the Charlotte Military Hiring Expo. Foxconn hiring crews plan to attend 20 veteran career fairs in 13 states during the next three months to recruit, interview and hire former military personnel.

“As Foxconn’s presence in Wisconsin continues to grow, we are continually looking for men and women who are mission-focused, motivated, and team oriented to contribute to our vision of building a vibrant environment for talent, innovation and business across the state,” Murdock added.

Foxconn has also stated its commitment to promote diversity across its operations as the company actively recruits for positions that cover a variety of areas, skill sets, and expertise to support efforts to create an extensive supply chain and a robust AI 8K+5G ecosystem.

“Wisconsin offers more state programs for veterans than any other state,” said retired Col. Peter Buck. “This puts Foxconn in a competitive position to recruit local and out-of-state veterans looking for jobs that enable them to make a difference and that offer opportunities for growth and development.” Buck, a retired Marine colonel, is chief administrator of Foxconn’s Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park.

Locally, the veteran job fair in Wisconsin that Foxconn plans to attend is the Milwaukee Vet Job Fair on Sept. 27. To register or learn more, visit the event registration page.
