The sawdust will be flying in Racine County this weekend! There is also a kids show, live comedy, a downtown party and lots of music. Real Racine has lots of great October ideas.
Made from wood. Chainsaw artists from throughout the Midwest will turn pine logs into art this Sunday during the Sixth Annual Chainsaw Carving Festival at the River Bend Nature Center, 3600 N. Green Bay Road, Caledonia. Come and watch the artists at work from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Then stick around for the auction of these art items to help support RBNC programming. This year’s Sip & Saw Wine/Beer Tasting is from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door (must be 21+). There will also be food trucks on site with great eats for purchase. For the kids. The Racine Children’s Theatre, 2519 Northwestern Ave., presents its first show of 2018-19 “Disney’s Aladdin Jr.” this weekend. The Union Grove High School Performing Arts Department presents this adaption of the popular animated features. Have a laugh. The Comedy Tonight Series on the Racine Theatre Guild stage, 2519 Northwestern Ave., presents Pat Hazell. Hazell, a “Seinfeld” writer and creator of several one-man shows, takes the stage with his own version of misspent youth called “Pat Hazell’s Permanent Record.” He promises to open the vault to all of his faults – and get everybody laughing. Curtain time is 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $18 adults; $16 seniors (62+) and $13 students (21 and younger). The series includes three more comedy shows through March. You know what this Friday means. The October edition of First Fridays is this Friday in Downtown Racine. Drop by from 4 to 9 p.m. for shopping, food/beverage specials, entertainment and some Halloween-inspired fun. Just look for the Fridays Flags. The Racine Art Museum, 441 Main St., has free admission all day and a family art project that focuses on the upcoming AdOrnaments Wrappins’ and Greetins’ exhibition. Catch a concert. The Racine Symphony Orchestra’s first Masterworks Concert features this year’s artist-in-residence Jeremiah Fredrick, a horn player. He’ll perform “Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 3 in E-flat.” The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Siena Center chapel, 5637 Erie St., Caledonia. Tickets are $25 for adults. Rock out Saturday. The annual Rocktoberfest fundraiser starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Club, 319 Hamilton St. This year’s bands include Blackwater, HIWATT (The Who tribute band) and Fall Hazard. There are also raffles, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and food available for purchase. Admission at the door is $10 and two non-perishable food items. Rocktoberfest benefits Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin child abuse prevention and Camp Hometown Heroes.
One more time. The year’s last Wind Point Lighthouse tour to the top is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 4725 Lighthouse Drive, Wind Point. You’ll have a rare opportunity to climb the 144 steps to the top of the 108-foot structure for a spectacular view of Lake Michigan. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 6 through 11. Because of safety considerations, children age 5 and younger may not make the climb. Wear sturdy shoes. Advance reservations are recommended. Visit www.windpointlighthouse.org
