A 28-year-old Racine woman faces a felony charge after she told officers seeking to arrest a man on an outstanding warrant that he wasn’t in the residence.
Breeana L. Gails was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with a felony count of harboring/aiding a felon, which carries a fine of $10,000 and three years, six months in prison.
Gails also was charged with a misdemeanor count of obstructing, which carries a fine of $10,000 and nine months in county jail.
According to the criminal complaint: An officer with the Racine Police Department responded to 5301 Biscayne Ave. on Sunday, to look for Sedrick Hunter, who was being sought on an active warrant for his arrest.
Court records indicate that Hunter was on active supervision with GPS monitoring.
Gails told the officer that Hunter wasn’t in the residence, but the officer advised that the GPS had placed him there. Police entered the residence and Hunter surrendered. He stated to police he told Gails to tell them he wasn’t there.
The defendant told police she was afraid of Hunter and had been threatened. Hunter’s GPS monitoring showed that he and Gails had been together at a nearby Walmart before they both went to the residence.
Gails is due back in court Nov. 7 for an 8:30 a.m. preliminary hearing.
