A report of shots fired Oct. 21 led to eight criminal charges being filed Wednesday in Racine County Circuit Court against a 19-year-old Racine man.
Rodolfo T. Villarreal is charged with a felony count of possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent, four misdemeanor counts of bail jumping and misdemeanor counts of discharging a firearm within 100 yards of a building, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.
The felony carries a fine of $25,000 and 10 years in prison, while the misdemeanors carry a total fine of $61,000 and four years, five months in county jail.
According to the criminal complaint:
Officers with the Racine Police Department spoke with a female, who stated that she and her boyfriend, the defendant, had gotten into an argument. The woman said that Villarreal began to destroy the apartment by throwing items around the apartment and also punched her flat-screen television, shattering it.
The defendant allegedly returned with a small black handgun. He opened the rear window, put his arm and fired a shot into the air. The officer noted that the apartment was an upper unit with many residences around and that there were people outside at the time.
Police observed that the apartment was in disarray and also found two weight scales, baking soda, a razor blade, and several small baggies. The defendant’s mother told police that her son has been using cocaine lately and is not himself.
Court records indicate the defendant is free on bond in a Racine County misdemeanor case and was ordered not to commit any new crimes, which led to the bail-jumping charges. Villarreal also has a previous felony conviction for battery by a prisoner.
Villarreal is due back in court Nov. 1 for an 8:30 a.m. preliminary hearing.
