There’s spooky fun for young and old in Racine County this Halloween weekend. Enjoy costumes, parties and candy as well as an early shot at a winter sport. Come along with us at Real Racine!
Fun for the kids. Boo at the Zoo is a safe, trick-or-treat event that goes all day Saturday throughout the Racine Zoo, 2131 N. Main St. The little spooks will be given a treat bag and an activity map to find the spooky “knock-knock” doors. There also games, Halloween-themed crafts, creepy-crawling animal ambassadors and more. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Regular Zoo admission applies: $8 adults; $7 seniors (age 62+); $6 children (age 15 and younger). Visit www.racinezoo.org
Goodies and a parade. Burlington, nicknamed Chocolate City, becomes Spooky City this Saturday. The free event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with Halloween crafts at Fox River State Bank. Then, the kids are invited to show off their costumes in a parade at Wehmhoff Square. Trick-or-treating for kids in costume starts at 11 a.m. at participating businesses. The Kids are People, Too! music show is in the Chestnut Street loop. Hayrides circle the downtown area from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a free family movie will be shown at the Plaza Theater at 12 noon. Candy and fun. The first-ever Mount Pleasant Ghost and Goblin Walk runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Campus Park, 8811 Campus Drive. Kids and parents are invited to trick-and-treat at 45 vendor booths. It’s free! Presented by the Mount Pleasant Citizen Academy Alumni.
For the adults. Saturday is Trolloween! It’s an annual adults-only costume contest and pub crawl in Downtown and River North Racine starting at 9 p.m. Saturday. A $3 wristband gets you on the shuttle buses that run among 16 participating nightspots. There’s free food at midnight at Main Hub, 1300 N. Main St., where the costume contest (with cash prizes) will be judged at 1 a.m. Don’t miss it!
Worth the wait. Barbecue fans had to wait a week because of last Saturday’s inclement weather, but Burlington’s Autumn Rib Festival is set to go for 12 to 5:30 p.m. this Saturday. Drop by Wehmhoff Square, 355 N. Pine St., for sit-down or drive-through rib dinners. There will also be live music and vendors. The proceeds benefit the Burlington Senior Center.
Give it a try! Racine Curling Club, 1914 Melvin Ave., invites everyone to try the sport of curling – for free! Put on warm athletic wear and clean athletic shoes to learn how to successfully launch a stone down the ice. Sessions are scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
