It’s time to think about holidays! This weekend in Racine County includes making your own Christmas tree ornaments, a visit from a football legend, mysteries to solve and a pair of fun fundraisers. Real Racine always has great ideas.
Make it yourself. The Racine Art Museum (RAM), 441 Main St., invites everyone to drop by from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday to create free homemade tree ornaments. RAM is open with free admission for First Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. You’re reminded that artists of all ages may enter their creations in RAM’s annual competition — The Art of AdORNAMENTS — that opens later this month. It’s First. This Friday is First Friday throughout Downtown Racine from 4 to 9 p.m. Downtown shops, galleries and nightspots will be open with shopping specials and entertainment. Look for the First Friday flags along Main and Sixth streets. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered at Monument Square from 5 to 9 p.m. (weather permitting). Meet a legend. The final weekend for the Racine Theatre Guild’s presentation of “Lombardi” includes some special things. The play is about Green Bay Packers Coach Vince Lombardi’s drive for perfection as seen during a week of the 1965 season. Thursday’s 7 p.m. performance is bargain-priced at just $14 for adults, $12 for seniors (age 62+) and $9 for students (age 21 and younger). The Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (2 and 7:30 p.m.) performances will feature a guest appearance by Dave Robinson, a Hall of Fame linebacker who played for Lombardi in the ’60s. Robinson (portrayed in the play by Dedrick Woods) will hold a talkback and meet-and-greet after the shows. What is it, anyway? Have fun identifying “300 Mystery Objects” at Burlington’s Logic Puzzle Museum, 533 Milwaukee Ave. Through Nov. 18 the Downtown Burlington attraction has a hands-on event aimed at anyone from age 5 to 105. Buy your ticket for the presentation and then stay until you’ve figured out the objects (or closing – whichever comes first). Kick up your heels. Have a fun afternoon at Joey’s Hoedown for Hunger from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Joey’s West, 9825 Kraut Road, Caledonia. Admission is $20 and two non-perishable food items. You’ll get beer, brats, burgers and a shot at raffles and the celebrity pie baking contest. Music by the Brian Daniels Duo. The hoedown benefits the Racine County Food Bank and the Milwaukee County Hunger Task Force.
Bowl awhile. Our Harmony Club invites you to Bowl Down Memory Lane from 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Castle Lanes, 5615 Castle Court, Racine. The $15 entry fee includes bowling and shoe rental. There will also be prize and 50/50 cash raffles. Register at http://ourharmonyclub.eventbrite.com
