A 29-year-old Racine woman faces three criminal charges after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend Saturday night.
Shonie Monique Merritt was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with felony counts of substantial battery and first-degree recklessly endangering safety with the use of a dangerous weapon, along with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
The two felonies carry a total fine of $35,000 and 16 years in prison, while the misdemeanor carries a fine of $1,000 and 90 days in county jail.
According to the criminal complaint: Racine police officers responded to a city residence, where they observed a male exiting the house, staggering onto the sidewalk and yelling, “Help me, I’ve been stabbed by my girlfriend.”
The officer observed a bandage around the man’s left forearm and blood coming from an injury above his nose, along with blood coming from an injury on his upper left shoulder.
The man told police the defendant was still in the apartment and “is extremely intoxicated and gets hostile while she’s intoxicated.”
Merritt told police that she and her boyfriend had been arguing throughout the day because she posted a Facebook selfie of herself half naked. She said the argument initially began because she found pornography on his cell phone, so she decided to post a photo of herself wearing only underwear and a bra.
The victim later said he wanted to end the relationship and advised her to leave. She stated she was extremely upset, so she grabbed a steak knife from the kitchen and stabbed him repeatedly.
Merritt made her initial appearance in court Monday afternoon.
