A traffic stop by Mount Pleasant Police for speeding early Friday morning led to the discovery of cocaine and marijuana in the vehicle and two felony charges filed against a 20-year-old Racine woman.
Brooke L. Hoffman is charged with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and possession with intent to deliver or manufacture marijuana, both as a repeat offender.
The felonies carry a total fine of $60,000 and 18 years, six months in prison. Because she’s charged as a repeater, Hoffman faces an additional four years in prison on both counts.
According to the criminal complaint: A Mount Pleasant police officer on patrol northbound on Wisconsin Highway 31 clocked Hoffmann’s vehicle traveling at 55 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone. As the officer approached the vehicle, it sped away, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hours and turn right onto Northwestern Avenue, where it crashed into the median and hit a sign.
Two males exited the car and fled the scene. After the officer lost sight of one of the men, he returned to the vehicle where he located Hoffmann in the front passenger seat.
During a search of the vehicle, police found three bags with 9.8 grams of marijuana and 6.5 grams of cocaine.
Hoffman made her initial appearance Friday in Racine County Circuit Court and is due back Nov. 7 for a 9 a.m. preliminary hearing.
