An argument between two men ended in one of them getting stabbed in the head with a crack pipe and that led to a pair of criminal charges being filed in Racine County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
David A. Ferrell, 34, Racine, was charged with a felony count of substantial battery and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. The felony carries a fine of $10,000 and three years, six months in prison. The misdemeanor carries a fine of $1,000 and 90 days in county jail. Ferrell is also charged as a repeat offender, which could add four years in prison to the felony charge and two years in jail on the misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint:
An officer with the Racine Police Department was dispatched to Carlisle Avenue on Tuesday for a report of a stabbing and that the victim was following the suspect on foot in the area of North Memorial Drive.
The officer found the victim at the corner of Albert and Frederick streets. The man had a laceration above his left eye, and his face was covered in blood. The victim stated that Ferrell was homeless and he had been staying with him for the past two days.
On Tuesday, the victim stated he was at his residence with Ferrell and two females when the defendant began arguing with one of the females. Ferrell then started swinging at people. When the victim stepped in front of Ferrell to get him out of the residence, the defendant allegedly took out a broken crack pipe and stabbed him in the head.
The victim was later taken to the hospital where he required three stitches to close the wound.
Police found Ferrell as he walked down Albert Street. Appearing intoxicated, the officer observed that he had blood drips on his clothes and face, and cuts on his hand. Ferrell at first said he was stabbed in the hands, then said he was beaten up. He then said he it was done by one person, but changed it to say he was beaten up by four people.
He also claimed that the victim struck him.
Ferrell made his initial appearance Wednesday and is due back for a preliminary hearing Nov. 14 at 8:30 a.m.
