Thefts from a residence on back-to-back days last week led to six criminal charges being filed against a 38-year-old Racine man.
Max Adrian was charged in Racine County Circuit Court with two felony charges of burglary of a building/dwelling, a felony charge of attempted burglary and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct.
The felonies carry a total fine of $62,500 and 28 years, six months in prison. The misdemeanors carry a fine of $11,500 and 13 months in county jail.
According to the criminal complaint: A Racine police officer responded to a city residence and spoke to a woman, who stated that her neighbor’s son stole $120 from her bedroom. The woman stated that while she was in bed, she heard the back door open but did not see anyone enter the home. She then saw a male, later identified as Adrian, crawling on the floor, go directly to her purse, crawl back out of the bedroom and leave the residence.
The woman also observed that plastic on the back door had a cut around the deadbolt and a wood block for the back door had been removed.
Police returned the next day for another burglary report after Adrian was seen apparently trying to pry open the screen on the back door. The woman stated she heard a noise and looked outside and saw him in her yard. The officer observed that the back storm-door window had been pried open enough to reach a hand inside and unlock the door.
Adrian was located by police at a residence on Washington Avenue. As police tried to take him into custody, he fled, ran back to a residence on Kentucky Street, hid in the basement and locked himself in the bathroom. He eventually was taken into custody.
During a search of the defendant, police found uncapped syringes, a tourniquet and a metal tin with a burnt bottom.
Underneath the stairs, where Adrian was found, police found several bank cards, $30 in cash, a digital camera and jewelry, along with a bank receipt bearing someone else’s name.
Police responded to that person’s residence and observed that the door had been forced open. The woman identified the cash, jewelry and camera as hers, and said all those items had been in her home when she left for work. She also stated that her door was closed and locked.
Adrian, who made his initial court appearance last week, is due back Wednesday for a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m.
