A 33-year-old Racine woman faces two felony charges of battery by a prisoner after an incident Nov. 24 at the Racine County Jail.

Each of the charges filed Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court against Heather A. Paquin carries a fine of $10,000 and six years in prison.

According to the criminal complaint: A Racine County Sheriff’s Department deputy assigned to the jail spoke with the defendant, who said that other inmates were harassing her.

Paquin claimed that someone tried to grab her through the bars, and she grabbed that person and bent her arm.

The deputy spoke to another inmate, who stated that Paquin was in the dayroom and refused to return to her cell. The defendant then put her arms in the air and said, “Who wants some?” When the other inmate told Paquin to get away from her cell, the defendant allegedly spit in the inmate’s face.

When that happened, the inmate said her cell mate came to the front of the cell and was grabbed by Paquin. At one point, the defendant also armed herself with a broom until a correctional officer ordered all the inmates to “lock down.”

The officer observed multiple scratches on the one inmate’s arm.
