SC Johnson has made plans to invest $110 million-$140 million for upgrading their production lines at its Waxdale factory.

Kelly Semrau, company spokeswoman, told reporters at the Journal Times that SCJ will invest $80 million more than usual at the factory over the next three years. She also said that they will be offering voluntary early retirements to up to 200 employees.

SCJ held meetings with all 600 of their employees at the factory, on all three shifts, on Tuesday during which time they informed them of these plans. Which of the 17 production lines will be upgraded at the factory is yet to be determined.

Semrau told reporters at the Journal Times that competitiveness is the driving force behind this plan, which is the biggest investment project since the factory opened its doors in 1954. She also said that they will be reducing their workforce by about 150 to 200 employees over the next two to three years.

The timetable for starting this plan will be within a year, and can take up to three years to complete.
